The SSYC, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that was formed in 1998 by Sudanese refugees who are living in Middle Tennessee. It has operated continuously since that time. The leadership of our organization has the ability to understand the unique needs of our community and can design programs geared to those needs. There are many basic tasks that people take for granted, such as filling out medical forms, applying for jobs, helping children with homework, and using computers. However for those coming from a totally foreign way of life and speaking a different language, these tasks can prove overwhelming. It is our goal to offer practical help with these challenges, while providing programs that will, hopefully, eliminate a large part of the need for such programs in the future as we fully integrate into our new country.
Any individual in need of our assistance may receive services, with special emphasis on Sudanese, Spanish-speaking individuals and other immigrants. Clients must display a legitimate need for assistance i.e. unemployment, parenting problems, communication issues, medical concerns, financial problems, transportation needs, etc.
